SUMMARY:Advanced ACE-V Applications
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\nThis is a 40-hour (5-day) course that focuses on current issues with respect to the ACE-V methodology. The target audience is the latent print examiner\, who is performing casework; although depending on your duties\, some 10-print examiners have taken the course and enjoyed learning about the various advanced topics. \nThe course is essential to fingerprint examiners wanting a thorough understanding of the ACE-V methodology. We deconstruct ACE-V and focus on each step: Analysis\, Comparison\, Evaluation\, and Verification. We cover each topic\, in depth\, critically\, and with a focus on current views and the most up to date research articles and industry standards. Topics in the course include: documenting the Analysis\, variability in the examination\, distortion patterns\, weighting features\, decision-making and current conclusions\, close non-matches\, AFIS issues\, using a statistical model\, bias\, error rates\, and current legal challenges to the field. All of these topics are discussed in an easy to understand manner\, including stories and cases from the instructor’s experiences. Students will be provided with various exercises to help understand the key takeaways. \nStudents may perform the exercises using provided photographs and ‘hard copies’ or they may bring their own laptop and use digital images. Students generally do not need magnifiers (the exercises are enlarged). If you bring a laptop\, it’s usually a good idea to bring an extension cord or power strip in case you are seated far from an outlet.
