Course Description:

In this pre-recorded lecture, Alice addresses the basic concepts and patterns of distortion.  Through first understanding the morphology of the hand and fingers, we can see how these structures cause various distortions.  Then, by understanding how the mechanics of touch and the distribution of residue occur, we can see how common patterns of distortion arise.  Alice introduces critical concepts such as “stick region”, “incipient slip”, and “wobble”.  Finally, we recognize how features can vary in their appearance in the latent print versus how the features appear in the exemplar print.
